KAMELTAN s.a.r.l. is a specialized company manufacturing a wide range of products from 100% genuine lambskin wool.
The first factory was founded in 1898 in Lebanon. Today, the new company is run by the 5th generation of tanners from the Kamel family. Despite facing economic hardship in an unstable region, we are proud of our resilient nature and our ability to vanguard our ancestors’ craft.
Every morning, sheepskins are delivered to our facility in raw condition. We treat them professionally through washing, tanning, re-tanning, toggling, drying and mechanical degreasing on tetrachloroethylene.
Our wool processing department is backed by a confection and stitching department. They take care of buffing, ironing, carding and dry shearing the sheepskins thoroughly. The final product goes through finishing, trimming, cleaning, dispatching and the packaging process.
JRK (Joseph R. KAMEL, Tanneries-Usines) closed down during the Lebanese civil war in the 1980’s.
History
KAMELTAN was founded in 1996 in the same location of the old factory which was built in 1968. Our address remains: Dora Shell Industrial Street, Sector No.1, Kamel Factory Building. Nowadays, it is a medium size company that employs more than 60 people. The factory occupies 8000 square meters and houses an equipment of 250 machines.
For more than 100 years, KAMELTAN is a trademark for tanning and finishing high quality skins. Our premium products are subjected to a yearly refinement process with new technologies. This continuous upgrade is aligned with our commitment to improve our environmental impact.

Since 1996, KAMELTAN has sold its product in 38 different countries. We export 90% of our products to Asia, Europe, USA, Russia and the Arab countries…
We have the reputation of being one of the cleanest and most environmental protective tanning industry in the Middle-East.
Wool’s sustainability credentials are due to its durability, ease of recycling and biodegradability. We endeavor to use environmentally friendly chemicals as well as adopting a vegetable tan-oriented production.
Vision
We seek to expand our full range of top-tier products made from 100% genuine lambskin wool and extend to different markets such as: automotive industries, boats and fiber glass manufacturers, as well as furniture, wood, parquet flooring, glass and marble industries, and aircrafts maintenance plants.
We also aim to build a various range of entertainment products such as: ear muffs or horse saddle covers, special gloves, make-up pads, computer keyboard and mouse rest pads as well as many other decorative flooring products, such as sheepskin pelts and cow hides with hair on.
